Role Overview

Sperry Marine are a global leader in the marine navigation systems industry, providing integrated technical solutions for the commercial and naval markets. Headquartered in the UK, we have an extensive international presence across Europe, the Americas and Asia, employing almost 400 people across ten countries.

The sales department plays a crucial role in the growth of Sperry Marine’s defence segment, specifically in the European and NATO sales of our specialized navigation, integrated bridge systems and related service on naval vessels via shipyards (New Builds), integrators (Refits) and direct customers. This department is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with national and international customers, including shipyards, government entities and defence organizations. The primary objectives include understanding customer requirements, promoting naval products and solutions, and negotiating contracts for the sale of naval assets.

Key responsibilities of a naval sales department involves market analysis to identify potential customers, assessing competitors, and staying informed about industry trends. Professionals in this department need to have a deep understanding of naval technologies, capabilities, and geopolitical considerations that influence defence procurement decisions.

Additionally, the naval sales department works closely with engineering, finance, and contracts to ensure that customer specifications are met, contracts are negotiated successfully, and deliveries are made in a timely manner. This role demands effective communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments, as defence contracts often involve stringent compliance requirements.

About You

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and concurrent opportunities.
  • Strong numeracy, analytical and problem‑solving capability.
  • Clear, professional communication skills, with fluency in English.
  • Relevant qualification such as Navigation Watch Officer certification, or a degree in engineering or business (or equivalent experience).
The successful candidate must be an EU or UK citizen, hold a valid driving licence, be able to pass background security (reliability) screening, and be willing to undertake up to 30% business travel annually.

Desirable Requirements
  • Experience with prospecting, lead generation and sales forecasting within naval or defence markets.
  • Background in navigation system definition, design, integration, testing or acceptance.
  • Knowledge of marine and naval standards and regulations (e.g. IEC 60945, IEC 61162 series, Class Society or USCG requirements).
  • Significant experience within the naval and/or defence sector.
  •  Prior Navy or Coast Guard service.
If this sounds like it matches your experience, and the type of work you'd love to do, we can’t wait to hear from you. And because diverse teams perform better, we’d especially welcome applications from individuals from under-represented groups.

What You Get in Return

  • A role that offers scope to make a real difference
  • International working environment
  • Hybrid working policy - 3 days a week in the office
