We have an
exciting 12 month placement opportunity in our Systems Group for an
undergraduate currently studying for a degree in a relevant STEM
subject. This placement will be at our head office in New Malden,
Surrey.
The role
will involve experiencing what it is to be a Systems, and Systems Test,
Engineer through active participation in our ongoing projects, working
alongside industry experts. As part of the Project Team, through
interactions and work, you will be exposed to the different disciplines
that make up the team, from internal customers in the Product Line
Management Team, right through to the customer facing Service Team.
Along with
your fellow Placement Students you will also have opportunities to work
on side projects that will utilise and grow your skills, whilst
completing and delivering tasks that will progress activities within the
department. You will ultimately have the opportunity to learn how full
lifecycle product development works in the real-world, allowing you to
gain an understanding of the various development processes involved, and
what it means to work as a team towards a common goal through your
collaboration with the wider Engineering Team.
To support
your growth and ability to achieve your goals, you would have access to
various forms of training and learning. This can include anything from
knowledge transfer sessions with subject matter experts within the team,
to more formal training sessions or workshops that may be geared
towards understanding how to perform certain tasks, understanding
process, or how to use certain tools. We fully expect you to put into
practice skills you have learnt on your course so far, and once complete
take back your experiences into the final years of your course.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct systems engineering
activities throughout the solution lifecycle for multiple engineering
development projects, including following activities:
- Systems requirements capture, analysis, acceptance and traceability
- Systems design, integration and acceptance
- Evidence gathering that the solution is compliant to customer and regulatory requirements
- Continuous improvement of solution development processes, including new process development and working practices.
- Coordination with other engineering and non-engineering functions to help solving problems as they arise
- Identification of technical
risks and elaboration of mitigations in coordination with the wider
engineering team, the project management and the product line management
teams
- Release, review and coordination of technical documentation to quality and schedule
- Conduct V&V activities throughout the project lifecycle, including:
- Analysis and Review Systems requirements and acceptance criteria
- Support Test Planning, including physical test environment design and setup
- Update and execution of Test Cases
- Where possible, support in automation activities, such as automated tooling or tests
- Investigate defects as they arise to support in their swift resolution
- Attendance of Sea Trials to verify product updates in the field
- Support Witness Testing activities conducted by Notified Body and External Test Houses
- Coordinate with other engineering functions and help solve problems as they arise
- Prepare for and support
Product Release activities in accordance with project schedule,
including creation of the final Test Report
- A hands on tester who is at ease setting up both hardware and software test environments
- Results orientated, understand how they can help deliver to schedule and budget.
At the end of your placement you will
also perform a final placement presentation to select members of the
Sperry Marine HR and Engineering Teams.
