Role Overview

Sperry Marine is a leading supplier of navigation, communication, information, and automation systems for commercial marine and naval markets.  Headquartered in the United Kingdom, we have an extensive international presence across Europe, the Americas and Asia, employing almost 400 people across ten countries.
 
We are seeking a Configuration Engineer / Controller to join our Engineering team in New Malden.

In this role, you will be responsible for configuration management and engineering change control across our product portfolio, ensuring product data, documentation and Bills of Materials are accurately maintained throughout the product lifecycle. Working closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Product Management and Compliance teams, you will help ensure robust governance, traceability and regulatory compliance across our products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage product configurations, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and baselines within our ERP system.
  • Maintain configuration control processes across hardware, mechanical and software disciplines.
  • Support part creation and management, including product data, export classifications and regulatory documentation.
  • Coordinate engineering change requests and oversee change implementation across the business.
  • Act as the gatekeeper for the release and revision of parts, products and technical documentation.
  • Support Change Review Boards (CRBs) and assess the impact of proposed changes.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, regulatory requirements and relevant ISO standards.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Product Management and Compliance teams to provide configuration support and best practice guidance.

About You

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive configuration professional who enjoys working across multiple functions, ensuring product data integrity, process compliance, and effective change control throughout the product lifecycle.

Essential
  • Experience in configuration management, configuration control or engineering change management.
  • Experience working with PLM and/or PDM systems (Windchill experience desirable).
  • Experience within a regulated industry such as maritime, aerospace, defence, automotive, nuclear or pharmaceuticals.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle governance and change control.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
Desirable
  • Experience using IFS ERP.
  • Experience developing and improving business processes.
  • Knowledge of classification societies or regulatory frameworks (e.g. DNV, TÜV, CCS).
  • Engineering project delivery experience.
  • Configuration management or quality management qualifications.
