Role Overview

An exciting opportunity to join Sperry Marine’s Commercial Engineering team as a Software Engineer. Taking a leading role in developing Sperry’s Marine navigation products (Radar, ECDIS, Track Control Systems), you will work with an experienced internal team in collaboration with established outsourced teams to provide improvements and new features to navigation software that is used across a diverse fleet of sea-going craft.

Key responsibilities:
  • Contributing to software requirements definition and the Systems Engineering process.
  • Developing design and estimates for improvements and new features to the Vision Master software.
  • Supporting external software developers as required.
  • Performing software implementation in-house.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert (SME) for other functional teams for your area of expertise.
  • Supporting diagnosis and correction of software issues experienced in the field.

What are we looking for?

Technical Skills

  • Experience in developing applications for the .NET Framework, particularly with experience of legacy products.
  • Good analytical skills and experience of code and design review for large projects.
  • Experience of multi-threaded and distributed applications, preferably with an understanding of network protocols and serialisation formats.
  • Experience with Java
  • Experience working with debugging and performance analysis tools on the Windows platform (e.g., Windbg, PerfView, etc.)
Industry Experience
  • Experience within an Engineering environment would be preferable (e.g., Maritime, Oil and Gas, Medical, Nuclear, etc.)
  • Experience working with hybrid teams (local and remote) would be preferable, particularly evidencing an interest in technical leadership.
Personal Characteristics
  • Conscientious and personable
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Works well independently and in a team
