The Sperry Marine Engineering Team based in New Malden in the UK and Hamburg in Germany, have responsibility for the development and maintenance of Sperry Marine’s wide product portfolio, and ambitious development roadmap.

We are a truly multidisciplinary team, with engineers from electronics, software, mechanical, system engineering and system test backgrounds all working in integrated teams to develop best in class products and solutions. 

To support our ambitious roadmap and growth plans we are actively increasing the size our teams, creating the opportunity for a skilled Principal Hardware Engineer to join us.

The Principal Hardware Engineer is a pivotal role in the Hardware team in Sperry Marine. They will work across product development and design of the new products, being involved in testing, type approval and writing high specs documentation. This role will report to the Hardware and Mechanical Manager, and will work closely with the Chief Hardware Engineer, the Senior Principal Hadware Engineer and the rest of the team, supporting and mentoring more junior team members

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Design of Hardware for new product line
  • Integration with FPGA design
  • Work together with Embedded, Firmware and Mechanical teams
  • Analysis of system requirements and production of technical requirements
  • Full Hands-on development
  • Create technical descriptions for Publications (manuals and datasheets)
  • Preparation of high-level technical documentation

About You:

Technical Skills
  • Strong experience with Electronics design for complex applications
  • High understanding of schematics and PCB layouts
  • Extensive experience with electronics testing and design Process
  • Experience with checking and reviewing drawings, documents and BOM’s
  • Extensive experience with professional eCAD software (preferably PADS PRO) and electronics simulation
  • Experience with Manufacturing processes and techniques
Specialist Knowledge
  • Knowledge of marine navigation equipment, and marine radar (desirable)
  • Experience with design for EMC
  • Degree (BSc) in Electronics Engineering (or comparable qualification)
Personal Characteristics
  • Good communicator and able to influence thinking/get point across
  • Able to present and summarise complex information to a wide audience
  • Self-sufficient and self-motivated approach
  • Able to assess priorities and order their own work
